SWBP II Recap

Once again Albuquerque obliged us with 26 teams at Coaches, all vying for the $500 first place price. Early predictions put Boats and Hoes, Dynasty, G-Squad, and Clovis team Come Honor as the favorites. Surprisingly, Clovis was nowhere to be seen. We’re still wondering what happened to them. I’m sure it had nothing to do with fear of another 0-2 defeat ;).

Boats and Hoes performed as expected, tearing up the winners bracket with ease. The reigning champions, G-Squad, however were not ready for a repeat performance. Playing much below their normal skill level, the Squad left the bar with a 2-2 record.

Team Dynasty came with a mission: not to get third again. With that in mind they easily made it to the winner’s bracket quarter finals before dropping to the loser’s bracket after facing Jacked and Tan. Not discouraged, they went on to mop the floor with the other losers.

Making their SWBP debut, Jacked and Tan were the team to look out for. Before the tournament started, nobody really knew what to expect from this team. They were quick to let us know, though, making short work of the winners bracket before losing to Boats and Hoes in the semifinals.

This pit Jacked and Tan vs. Team Dynasty in the losers bracket finals. Jacked’s hot run came to a screeching halt with a 4 cup loss to Dynasty. They left the tournament in third place, promising to make a better showing next month.

This put Dynasty (last month’s third place) against Boats and Hoes in the finals. I don’t even want to talk about the first game, as it was an embarrassment to all New Mexico beer pong players. I’ll only say this: thank god the 20 minute rule was not in effect.

Dynasty finally took the first game down after a double-OT which really didn’t even make sense with the kind of shots that were being thrown. The second game began right away, and I for one am extremely thankful that we got that one on tape. Both teams were shooting to their skill level, and ultimately Boats and Hoes took the win.

Congratulations to Gary and Kyle of Boats and Hoes for their victory, and to the guys in Dynasty for making the cash. Honorable mentions to the following teams for making the top 6: Team Faded, Last Two Picked, and Some Team. The full bracket is available at http://challonge.com/SWBP_2.
