I. Tournament Structure
          A. Brackets
                    1. All teams will be randomly seeded into a double elimination bracket. We utilize
ALJ Tournament Maker for our brackets.
II. Setup
          A. Cup Formation
                    1. 10 cups on each side will be arranged in a triangle formation, centered and within one inch
                         of the table's edge.
                    2. Cup rims should be touching, but not overlapping one another.
          B. Content of Cups
                    1. In all Southwest Beer Pong events, water will be used in all cups. Cups should be filled at
                        least 1/3 with water.
                    2. Absolutely no alcoholic bevarages are used in any Southwest Beer Pong events.
III. Gameplay
          A. Choosing Sides and First Shot
                    1. A coin toss will determine who gets to choose which team goes first.
                    2. The team not deciding who goes first (i.e. the loser of the coin toss) gets choice of table
                        side.
                    3. The team shooting first gets one ball, and either player may take the first shot. Each team
will get two shots for each turn thereafter, one shot per player, subject to any other rules
                        below.
          B. Grabbing
                    1. A thrown ball may be grabbed, but only after it has made contact with the rim of a cup. It
may not be grabbed if it is already inside the cup.
                    2. In the event of ball interference (a player making contact with a ball prior to it touching the
rim of a cup), a one cup penalty will be imposed on the interfering team. The player whose
shot was interfered with will choose which cup to be removed.
                    3. If a non-player interferes with a thrown ball, the shot is rethrown.
                    4. Bounce Shots
                              a. Players are allowed to bounce their shot off of the table before making it in their
                                  opponents' cup.
                              b. Bounce shots may not be interfered with prior to making contact with a cup.
                              c. Bounce shots are only worth one cup.
                    5. All random objects on the table (cups, bottles, etc.) count as a part of the table. Therefore
any shot that bounces off an errant object and goes into a cup counts as a made shot.
          C. Reracks and Cup Reformation
                    1. Reracks, or cup reformations, occur AUTOMATICALLY at 6, 3, and 1 cups remaining.
                    2. Cups should be reracked into a triangle formation, and be within one inch of the table's
                        edge.
                    3. If a cup drifts out of position, it may be moved back into place at the request of the
                        opposing team.
                    4. Reracks occur as soon as possible, including in the middle of a turn.
                    5. A cup should be removed as soon as it is made. It is the responsibility of the shooting
team to wait until the playing field is clear before making their next shot. If shot is made
while the defending team is still reracking or removing a made cup from play, the shot will
count as a miss regardless of whether or not it was a hit.
          D. Rollbacks
                    1. During typical gameplay, if both players make their shot in a turn, they will get one
                        additional shot.
                    2. Either player make take the shot.
          E. Leaning
                    1. Leaning is allowed, as per the following:
                    2. A player may not place any part of his or her body on the table for support.
                    3. Players may not edge around the side of the table.
                    4. Cups may not be moved out of the way in order for a player to shoot. If a cup is moved out
of position as a result of coming into contact with the player's body, it must be returned to
its original position. Any cups knocked over as a result of leaning will count as a made cup.
          F. Distractions
                    1. Distractions are allowed, as per the following:
                              a. Players may not cross the plane of play (the imaginary plane which runs vertically and
separates you from your cups) with any part of their bodies, clothing, or other objects,
while the other team is shooting.
                              b. Players may not fan, blow, or otherwise intentionally create an air current surrounding
                                  the cups in play.
                              c. Distractions should not violate any local, state, or federal laws.
          G. Knocking Over Cups
                    1. If a player knocks over one of his or her team's cups, that cup is counted as a made cup,
                        and is removed from play.
                    2. If a non-player knocks over a cup, the cups is refilled and returned to its original position.
                    3. If a thrown ball knocks over a cup it counts as a hit unless it was absolutely clear that the
ball had not entered the cup before knocking it over.
          H. Making Your Own Cups
                    1. If a player who has possession accidentally drops a ball into his own team's cup, that shot
                        is not counted.
                    2. If a player who does not have possession comes into contact with a thrown ball (i.e. acting
as a backboard) and the ball then falls into a cup, that shot is counted.
IV. Rebuttal
          A. Two Possible Scenarios.
                    1. A team enters rebuttal (or redemption) when their opponents have made their last cup.
There are two possible rebuttal scenarios:
                              a. The rebuttal team had more than one cup remaining when the last cup was made. In
this case the team "shoots until they miss". They will choose who will take the first
shot, then alternate shooting until one player misses. Once a shot is missed the
                                   game is over.
                              b. The rebuttal team had only one cup left when the last cup was made. In this case, the
team takes as many shots as were remaining on their side. If it took two shots to
make the last cup, each player on the rebuttal team gets an attempt. If it only took
one shot, then only one player may attempt the rebuttal shot.
          B. Overtime
                    1. If the rebuttal team makes all of their rebuttal shots, the game enters overtime.
                    2. Three cups are placed in a triangle formation on each side, within one inch of the table's
                        edge.
                    3. The dominant team (the team that would have won had the rebuttal not been made)
                        chooses who goes first.
